Programas
Algúns son gratuítos, pero non libres (freeware) e outros son software libre (tamén coñecido como free software). Unha licencia moi extendida no mundo do software libre é a GNU GPL. O concepto cross-platform (multiplataforma) referido a un programa significa que está deseñado para funcionar en varios sistemas operativos, por exemplo Windows, Mac e Linux. Algúns programas gratuítos ofrécenche a opción de instalar complementos, en xeral unha “barra” para o navegador; atención: hai programas que instalan eses complementos “por defecto” e tes que deseleccionar manualmente ou, en casos extremos, tragar…

- Visor de imaxes: IrfanView (free for non-commercial use, Windows)
- Compresor / descompresor de arquivos: PeaZip (free, Windows and Linux, LGPL; select the “plain” installer to avoid ads)
- CD ripper: I used musikCube (free, Windows, BSD license) – I have not tested it yet, but people say the best freeware ripper for Windows is Exact Audio Copy
- Antivirus: avast! Free Antivirus (free for personal and non-commercial use, Windows – there is also an avast! Linux Home Edition)
- Antivirus online: Jotti – VirusTotal
- Prevención e eliminación de programas espías: Spybot Search and Destroy (free for non-corporate use, runs mainly on Windows) – SpywareBlaster (free for personal and educational use, Windows)
Educación musical
- MuseScore (WYSIWYG music notation program, free, cross-platform, licensed under GNU GPL)
- LilyPond (music notation program, free, licensed under GNU GPL)
- Denemo (music notation program for Linux and Windows, free, licensed under GNU GPL)
- LenMus Phonascus (music education program including aural training, theory and solfège, free, cross-platform, licensed under GNU GPL)
Browsers market share statistics
These are the browsers market share statistics according to the country weighting methodology adopted by Net Applications in August, 2009. Some months will show strange tendencies, due to new country statistics. For example, in February, 2011, IE gained share and Firefox had a strange loss, which Net Applications explained this way:
With the new C.I.A. numbers factored in, Firefox loses global share since many of the countries it is most popular in (Western European, in particular) now have a lower percentage of global internet users. Internet Explorer gains as browser usage shifts to countries with higher percentages of Internet Explorer users.
P. S. (1 – IX – 2011). I have corrected some numbers to match those on the page (what they let you see, i. e. from last October on). These guys seem to have “refined” their methodology again, and percentages got retroactively changed. I suppose obscuring numbers improves their business… :-/
P. S. (23 – VI – 2012). If you look at the numbers by StatCounter Global Stats you will find them very different to these. It may be interesting to read their explanation: “An Open Letter to Roger Capriotti, Microsoft”.
